Thoracic Surgery
Several of our surgeons have broad
experience in the area of thoracic surgery.
They have expertise in the treatment of disorders of the
lung, the pleura (the lining of the lung), and the chest wall
using both open and thoracoscopic (minimally invasive)
procedures. Using
VATS (video-assisted thoracic surgery) our surgeons can
accurately diagnose and remove lung masses or cancers using
three to four very small (about 1 inch) incisions in the chest
wall. The same
technique can be used to address problems of the pleura or lung
lining. VATS is a
minimally invasive technique that allows for decreased
postoperative pain, shorter hospital stay, and a more rapid
recovery than traditional open techniques.
Our surgeons also perform mediastinoscopy,
which is a specialized video technique to help diagnose the
extent and spread of lung cancer.
In addition to the above, many of our physicians are
skilled in performing pacemaker procedures.
