            Richard D. Ing, M.D. joined Surgical Specialists, P.C. in September 2009 and expanded the services of the practice to include bariatric surgery, a sub-specialty of general surgery. Dr. Ing is a general surgeon with a fellowship in advanced laparoscopic surgery. His specialties include general, bariatric, oncologic and advanced laparoscopic surgery. 

 

            A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Ing received his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati where he was awarded the Wulsin Fellowship for Surgical Research (1989-1990). Dr. Ing completed his general surgery residency at Wayne State University in Detroit, after which he completed a fellowship in advanced laparoscopic surgery at the Baptist Hospital of Miami. It was during his fellowship in advanced laparoscopic surgery that Dr. Ing became interested in using advanced laparoscopic techniques to perform minimally invasive surgery for the treatment of morbid obesity. 

 

            Prior to joining Surgical Specialists, Dr. Ing spent ten years in group practice where he established a program in Minimally Invasive Surgery at Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County, NJ. While serving as the Director of the Minimally Invasive and Laparoscopic Center of New Jersey, he co-founded its Minimally Invasive Bariatric Surgery Program which was awarded the certification of a Bariatric Center of Excellence.

           

            Dr. Ing is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.  He was also named Top Doc in the area of colorectal surgery in South Jersey Magazine 2006. 

 

            In addition to joining Surgical Specialists’ general surgery team at Bryn Mawr Hospital, Dr. Ing also serves as the Medical Director of Bryn Mawr Hospital’s Bariatric Surgery Program, located in Newtown Square, PA.
