With 14 surgeons in seven offices and five surgical facilities, you never have to go far to find the best in general, vascular and plastic and reconstructive surgery. Our University-trained physicians bring some of today’s most innovative surgical techniques and treatments in a convenient, patient-friendly environment.
We treat more than 15,000 patients per year and perform more than 10,000 procedures annually. We have been serving patients at the Bryn Mawr Hospital, the Paoli Hospital, The Chester County Hospital and, most recently, the Brandywine Hospital and the Phoenixville Hospital for more than twenty-five years.
Our mission – to provide the highest possible patient care in a safe and caring environment – is understood and embraced by each member of our clinical and non-clinical team. We have spared no expense in recruiting and retaining a staff of the highest caliber, who are both competent and compassionate in helping us to deliver the finest care possible.
Surgical Specialists, P. C. was the vision of Ron Mattson, a successful general/vascular surgeon, who worked at three hospitals, the Bryn Mawr Hospital, the Paoli Hospital, and the Chester County Hospital. As such, he had the opportunity to work with the three general surgery practices at each hospital. His own, which was Bryn Mawr Surgical Group, Ltd, and the two others: The Paoli Surgical Associates, and the Chester County Surgical Associates. Each of the three groups was comprised of three surgeons. Understanding the advantages of growth and negotiation leverage, he encouraged the principals at each to consider a merger, and in 1999 Bryn Mawr Surgical Group, Ltd merged with Paoli Surgical Associates and Surgical Specialists of the Main Line was formed. By 2001, George Trajtenberg, the founder of Chester County Surgical Associates, convinced his fellow partners of the advantages of such a merger and Chester County Surgical Associates merged with Surgical Specialists of the Main Line and Surgical Specialists, P. C. was formed.
Over the next fifteen years, the practice grew from nine to 21 physicians and became the premier surgical group in both Montgomery and Chester County. The physicians all held positions of leadership in their respective hospitals and were highly respected within the community. Relationships with other hospitals grew also, and today SSPC also serves the surgical needs of the Phoenixville Hospital and the Brandywine Hospital, where SSPC has recently added a full time general and vascular surgery presence. In addition to its four main campuses, Surgical Specialists also has three satellite offices in the surrounding communities.
In time, Surgical Specialists expanded its services to include not only general and vascular surgery, but also plastic surgery, which furthered its goal to provide its patients the resources of a multi-specialty environment. Our plastic surgery division offers both cosmetic and reconstructive therapies as well as the services of a board certified micropigmentation specialist.
Over the course of the last few years, some of the principal surgeons have since retired, taken administrative positions or pursued other career paths. Ron Mattson retired in July 2014 after successfully leading the practice’s growth and development for fifteen years. Scott Kripke succeeded Dr. Mattson as president of SSPC which now includes a roster of fourteen physicians and three non-physician providers. Further plans for the continued growth of the practice are underway.
